Tuchel MUST Fix Dortmund Defence To Move Forward

Nobody can deny that Dortmund are the most exciting teams to watch going forward. And goals do win games. But if you don't have any defence, then that will come back to haunt you when the goals don't come raining down.

And if Tuchel is serious about just not entertaining fans and winning some trophies this season, then he must address his defence.

Hoffenheim tore Dortmund to shreds, and with a man up, they should feel ashamed that they couldn't put them to the sword. Defensively, Dortmund were a mess and struggled with every single attack that Hoffenheim launched.

Bartra had one of the worst games from a professional defender I have ever seen. Whether it was
his poor positioning, tepid clearances and struggling to keep up with the speed of the Hoffenheim attacks, he was horrendous.

Even if the much better and assured Sokratis comes back into the team, it's not enough cover when you have the old and wasted Weidenfeller as your last line of defence.

Tuchel simply has to take a trip to the market and buy better defenders.

The mistake that people make is not having to worry about defence when you have an amazing attack. The thinking being that you will always outscore your opponent. Just ask Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool how that worked out when they were so close to winning the league.

If your team is really offensive, then your defence has to rise to the occassion even more.

When you have every man, woman and child attacking, that means your defenders will be exposed to a counter. And the best way to stop counter-attacks is to have amazing anticipation, as it's too much to ask a defender to try and stop three forwards beaming down on him.

With Dortmund's talents havin such names such as Aubameyang, Dembele, Gotze, Reus, it would be a travesty if their sexual football did not result in at least one trophy. But this is football, and every aspect of the team is important with not being more important than the other.

January is weeks away and I am hoping Tuchel already has a shortlist of the best and most robust and tactically aware defenders on the market.
