Chicharito can Make It a Three-Man Race for Leverkusen

The presumption as we build up to this new season is taking bets of when Bayern will be champions. At worst, people see this as exclusively a two-horse race with Dortmund being the only viable contender. It's hard to argue when you look at last season and the distance between Dortmund and third place.

Let's "have hope" about this situation, and look at who could realistically challenge Bayern and Dortmund. Out of all the teams in the Bundesliga who I think can do this, my eyes are set on Bayer Leverkusen. A young team who work extremely hard, are very organised and tough team to defeat.

However, it isn't the whole pie that makes me say they will do good but it's the Mexican hitman who I believe can turn their fortunes around.

Javier Chicharito Hernandez only had half a season for Leverkusen and already made an amazing impact. He was a vast improvement on the tree-trunk whose name beings with K, and was hitting those G's for Leverkusen that propelled them up the table when they struggled at the start.

A rare case where a striker instantly fits into his new team. Blessings for any manager.

I've been a fan of Hernandez from the start and never thought he got given a fair chance at United. When he got thrown on the bench, his head never dropped and always peformed when he was called upon. It got to a stage where the insult of being designated as the super-sub was too much to take. He made the right move in leaving and just happened to choose the right club.

After a succesful half season, Schmidt needs to buy wisely this summer. He's got a talented team, but they are still young and their youth has held the club from achieving glory.  An older and more experienced midfielder as well as a winger who's great at crossing is what he needs to buy.

For the latter, Schmidt must take full advantage of Chicharito's off the ball movement. Getting a great winger who understands the Mexican supremo's runs will lead to more G's, more points and closing the gap on Bayern and Dortmund. Look at Higuain who was so-so for Real, continues to come up short Argentina but has been superb for Napoli. Purely because the team was built around him.

Schmidt, take notes from Sarri.

The aim has to be to win the title. Tall order and most likely won't happen, but if Leicester can do it why not Leverkusen? For that to happen, just like Vardy with the Foxes, they need their goalscorer hitting the net on a consistent basis. HH
