He May be Old, but Ribery Can Still Be Important for Carlo and Bayern

Coman, Sanches, Costa; these are the new exciting wingers that old-man Ribery has to compete with for a place in the team. Some might say the bearded Frenchman is past it and should give way to the newer blood and generation at Bayern. Both Coman and Sanches are very young but already have shown what their potential could be by playing important roles at the Euros. Then we have Douglas Costa who ability on the ball is insane. So then Ribery should just step aside? Surely?

Those that say that are fools and don't respect true talent. Despite Ribery's age, the man hasn't magically lost his rare two-footed ability, footballing brain and vast experience and knowledge of how to master the art of playing on the flank. Ancelotti is going to need that, and can't rely on youngsters when the palms get sweaty and the pressure-cooker is racked up to infinity.

Bayern just may have the best options in terms of wide players in the world. Apart from the three that I mentioned, I didn't even throw in the Dutch sniper, one my favorite current players and a man who to this day can win a match on his own. And the thing about having these options is you can win a game that you're losing just by making the right substitution.

There are skills and attributes and things Ribery gives you that no other winger in the world offers. That is why he is so important for Carlo's plans because different games, different opponents, call for certain kinds of players. As I mentioned previously, please tell me how many truly two-footed players exist in the world, and how many of them can play on the wing as well as Ribery?

I have to call myself out on this. I thought there was no point in keeping Ribery and he should have moved on. The reason I said that after looking back, was because I hardly saw him play due to injury. So I forgot about him and what he offered. Now seeing him, and what he can still do, you cannot sell a player like this.

The target is the Champions League and Carlo knows the higher-ups will be hovering over him like vicious hawks, eager for them to win the big trophy. For them to gain that victory, Franck has to be involved and play a key part, just as he did when they won it in 2013. HH
