Red Bull Leipzig Bundesliga Win Would Be Greater Story than Leicester

Twelve games played. Nine wins. Three draws. Unbeaten. Red Bull Leipzig are trying really hard to convince me that this isn't some joke, or a matrix program that I have been plugged into.

They really want to have us all believe that they can win the Bundesliga.

So let's entertain this for the purpose of this article, because I personally do not believe they will do it. We are yet to go halfway through, and Leipzig are yet to face the two heavy hitters of Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

But just for argument's sake...

The first thing that people have been saying is how everyone doubted Leicester, including myself, and all said they wouldn't be able to do it. Even when they kept on winning, it took a long time before people finally came round to actually believing it could happen.

While true, there's a very important difference between Leicester's situation and Leipzig, and it's to do with the two teams that I have already mentioned.

Bayern Munich and Dortmund would clean house if they were in the Premiership. as there is no team in England's league who could compete with them for a whole season. So by the virtue of them being in the same competition as Leipzig, that makes the degree of difficulty far higher than what Leicester faced.

And coupled with the fact that the defending champions decided to go on a tour of the relegation zone and Man City reared its ugly head. While Arsenal were...Arsenal.

At the moment, Dortmund have had slip-ups but are finally finding their feet whilst Bayern are now in the middle of a bad run and are trying to figure things out. So it's ideal for Leipzig and they are capitalising on this. But there's a season to go and we are yet to reach halfway.

I am confident Bayern and Dortmund won't underperform as much as Man City, Chelsea and United did last season. They will click into gear, and once they do, I don't believe Leipzig will have the quality and mental toughness to go on a long winning run to maintain their place at the summit.

Ancelotti is too good and experienced a manager with a team that has too much talent and ability to just easily give up on their title and not rank up the pressure.

Let's just say that the Red Bull team win the Bundesliga and this is a mighty IF scenario. So if come May 2017, Red Bull Leipzig are crowned champions and they hoist up the shield and they grace every newspaper in the world because of the incredible story...then you would have a greater tale than Leicester's.

A team that was only formed recently, managed to come ahead of two of the best football clubs in the world?

That is just mind-shattering and the thought of it, is maddening. Which is why, we need to all calm ourselves and see how this all plays out. But for what it's worth, Leipsizg have injected some life back into the Bundesliga and the world is now interested in the league again.

I for one am rooting for them, despite my love for Dortmund's philosophy, and I love nothing more than seeing David give Goliath a clean uppercut that takes the big guy down for the count.

Leipzig, never stop dreaming, and simply take it one game at a time and keep on pushing to at least attempt to write one of the great football stories.

And remember, Red Bull gives you wings and these players have certainly been flying.
