IS AUBAMEYANG TOO GOOD FOR THIS CURRENT DORTMUND?
How much longer will Aubameyang remain at Dortmund?
That's a question that must be asked because it will be foolish to assume that a player of his caliber will remain with the club ad finitum.
I started thinking about this when seeing Dortmund face Tottenham. It was an excellent game, and Dortmund acquitted themselves very well despite the loss of Dembele in the summer.
However, my attentions were at Aubameyang, and how well he took his goal that should have stood, and it reminded me of this man's superb finishing quality. An aspect of his game that keep improving each season, and I just have to wonder how much longer he will be a Dortmund player.
I've always been one fighting the good fight for more parity in football and for the very best to be spread out among as many teams as possible. So I should be happy that Aubameyang is with Dortmund.
But then I look at the departures of Lewandowski, Hummels, Dembele, Gundogan...and I look at the injury issues of Reus, part of me would have wanted Aubameyang to have signed for a "bigger" team.
Do Dortmund really have a chance to win the Bundesliga if Bayern Munich wake up from their slumber?
Are they even dark horses for the Champions League?
You have to look at Aubameyang who is 28 now, and is at that point in time when you are just about winding down in your career. He's got at most, another three years playing at the peak of his powers.
So you would think someone who is still considered among the vert best in Europe, will want to move to a team that can match his quality and start realistically going for titles.
In no way shape or form am I throwing shade at Dortmund. It's not the team I fell in love with years ago, but I admire the way in which they still continue to approach the beautiful game.
You just have to ask that hard question which is....
Is Aubameyang too good for the current state of Dortmund?
I'll answer it for you...
...yes, he is, because it's no longer a team that can compete at the very highest level as they used to years ago. HH
